Matthieu is a Breton with Reachmen family background. He was adopted into a noble Breton family, but when he matured, he discovered his true origins. Fascinated by the cultural heritage of the Reach, he delved deep into its lore. While he started studying conjuration and desctruction schools of magic at the Mages Guild, he soon got expelled from the organisation for his unethical practices and became a hedge wizard and guild apostate. A master of conjuration, Tonnelier specializes in summoning powerful Daedra to do his bidding, but also to grant him knowledge of Oblivion, the realm of which has always fascinated him. He usually rides a Storm Atronach, forced by sheer willpower into a shape of a bear. Matthieu most often utilizes different lesser Daedra as assistants, especially trained scamps. In combat, Tonnelier uses the Skull of Corruption, an artifact of Namira, which he once used to ensnare a Reach clan worshipping her. While he sometimes acts as an intermediary between the Breton kingdoms and some of the more peaceful Reach clans, he usually does that with an ulterior, selfish motivation in mind.
