Born to a Swedish-British archaeologist, Kent Nelson accompanied his father on an expedition to a tomb in Mesopotamia, where they discovered the preserved body of Nabu, an ancient being.
Unfortunately, Kent's father lost his life in the process.
Moved by the young boy's plight, Nabu took him under his wing and trained him in the mystic arts.
Eventually, Nabu passed on the role of Doctor Fate to Kent, who became a valued agent of the Lords of Order.
Kent embarked on a career as a superhero, specialising in magic, and formed a deep bond with his partner and later wife, Inza Cramer.
